Rather then seminal photobooks of the 20th century and beyond, a selection is made of self-published photobooks and a category is made of unconventional photographer's booklets. These, mainly small, books are produced by such Dutch portrait photographers as KOOS BREUKEL, CUNY JANSSEN and RINEKE DIJKSTRA as well as those working in the (conceptual) documentary tradition: HANS EIJKELBOOM, JACQUELINE HASSINK, ROB HORNSTRA, GEERT VAN KESTEREN, BART SORGEDRAGER, ANDREA STULTIENS and ALBERT VAN WESTING. Author photographers booklets' are chosen, such as Dr. Ameisenhaufen's FAUNA researched by Joan Foncuberta and Pere Formiguera, Valparaiso by SERGIO LORRAIN and Mr Mkhize's portrait by ADAM BROOMBERG and OLIVER CHANARIN as well as the poetic publication POL by DÖRTE EISSFELDT.
A series of paperback editions, modest in size, are not only striking because of the material or device used to bind, sew, staple or glue the publication.
The selection contains about 60 catalogues and monographs in limited edition published by small-specialized publishing houses, galleries and cultural institutions.
This category mainly concerns sophisticated artists using the medium of photography for a small, consistent oeuvre built up slowly over the years. These artists, working and living in Europe, are well presented in the international art world: WOUT BERGER, ANUSCHKA BLOMMERS & NIELS SCHUMM, PAUL BOGAERS, COR DERA, CHARLOTTE DUMAS, LIZA MAY POST, HELLEN VAN MEENE, JORGE MOLDER, VERDI YAHOODA.
A variety of institutional booklets and some dedicated exhibition catalogues are yet other subcategories.
